Sustainable

Expansion

Solid State aims to scale in a way that is intentional and sustainable long-term. We want to deepen our presence in Surrey and the Lower Mainland while expanding nationally and internationally through new co-ops and regional hubs. As we grow, the scope and scale of our co-ops will grow as well. We are very focused on building strong job-creating enterprises with durable financial models and are having significant success at this with both our current and new racialized-led co-ops.

In order to meet our 2028 commitment, we have been expanding outreach initiatives, streamlining our co-op development services, and strengthening our local connections with new community partnerships. This section includes summaries from our national and international projects as well as milestones from a handful of co-ops in our network.

Solid State

Affordable Housing Society

The Solid State Affordable Housing Society (SSAHS) continues developing the foundation for community-owned, permanently affordable housing. Through partnerships with Purppl and Aunt Leah’s Properties, SSAHS is crafting an ethical and practical model combining cooperative, non-profit, and community land trust approaches to ensure secure, dignified homes for multigenerational and racialized families.
